Like what you see and want photos of your dog, cat, horse, rabbit, monkey, goose or lizard from Mountain Mutt? Sure thing! One of my main goals in my business is to make sure that everyone has amazing photos of their pets before they head to the rainbow bridge! I don’t know how many people tell me how they have no good images of Dixie, their family dog, and now it’s too late. That is exactly my story.
We got Dixie when I was 8 years old when I begged my dad to take me to the pet store to “just look”. Well, what happens when a dad of two girls goes to the pet store to “just look”? You guessed it, we came home with a puppy! The cute, little black and white puppy that chewed on my shoelaces now needed a name. Growing up in Chicago but with family roots in the South, we had the band Alabama on the record player (shh, I’m not really that old!) while we tried to figure out a name for our newest addition. The song Dixieland Delight came on and it was my favorite song at the time and BOOM! That was it! We’ll name her Dixie! (Actually her full name was Dixieland Delight, but we called her Dixie for short!) She was a great dog, lived to be 15 and passed away when I was in college. All this to tell you that I don’t have very many good photos of Dixie. She was such a huge part of my life growing up but the images are sparse. Sadly, this is the story of many of my friends and clients. I don’t want your kids to grow up with the same story. Even if you do it yourself, get good photos of your pets with and without the family in them. You never know how long they will be a part of our lives.
Anyway, long story short, I can help you remember this point in you and your pet’s lives with photography and art for your home. Commissioned portrait sessions start at $200 with products and digital images available for purchase. Contact me here for more information.

Here in Knoxville, TN we have an amazing public animal shelter, Young-Williams Animal Center. It really is a state of the art facility that works with local rescue groups, the community and the media to get their pets adopted out as quick as possible.
I have the awesome opportunity to photograph these adoptable animals and I love every minute of it! I have some AMAZING volunteers that help me on a regular basis and I couldn’t do it without them. I have realized that most animal shelters do not have the resources to have a professional photographer to capture their adoptable animal’s personalities outside of their kennels. What a difference this makes!
I realize how important photos are for a pet finding their forever home. It’s like online dating. Think about going to Match.com and looking for your soul-mate and even though their description sounds like they would be a perfect match, their photo is of them sitting in a dark corner with their ears back and tail tucked (okay, maybe they don’t have tails on match.com but you get my drift…)….. you would think, what is wrong with them for posting that photo of themselves on here? How will they ever get a date looking like that? Well, WE are the voices of the pets in a shelter. They can’t post photos of themselves nor can they tell you what they have dealt with in the past. But WE can. WE CAN HELP. It is our responsibility to get them out of that cage and play with them, give them love and attention and capture their unique personality with our photos. It is OUR responsibility to make sure that when we post their photo to Petfinder.com or Facebook, that they look amazing and not scared, hovered in a dark corner of their cage.
This is where I can help. I want every pet that needs a home to have an amazing photograph. I am only one person. I can’t do it all. I photograph at least 100 animals a week as it is. But I can help you. I can teach you how to take amazing photos of that puppy who just won’t “smile” because he has been beaten by his owner for urinating in the house because he hadn’t been outside in 12 hours, or that cat that just had a litter of kittens but was taken away from them because the owner doesn’t want the “old” cat anymore, or that dog who had never lived life off a chain and growls at anyone who comes near him because he doesn’t know who to trust.
I have formed a very successful Shelter Pet Photography Program in my shelter and I can help you.
